i made this! - seat cushion

This is the seat cushion for my old wooden desk chair. It's my second sewing project and my first time piecing fabric together and doing binding. I rushed it and you might not really be able to tell by this photo but some of my seams don't line up and the binding is a mess. I didn't really care though seeing as it was just going to be a seat cushion and my butt was going to be all over it. Ha!

I used this tutorial to create the zig zag design. I made it in an envelope style. I suspect all the pillows I do will be in this manner as I have no desire to attempt hand sewing and I like the idea of switching them out once in a while without having a bunch of pillows all over the place. The fabric I believe is Moda - Bliss. It was given to me by my friend Gale over at Stamps and Stitches. It's the coordinating fabric to the quilt that she made me.

Love it! I wouldn't sweat it about the seams not lining up. I used to be super anal about it (and still am to a point) and then I saw some quilts in a magazine that didn't line up perfectly. I figured if something that rated a magazine article was good enough with seams that don't perfectly match mine would be too. I still try to match them but I don't rip out the seams as much as I used to. And envelope style rules! I love that method because I like to be able to wash my pillow covers.

Thanks! The ones that didn't line up were like 1/4 in. I just needed to pull them a bit. But no biggie. I'll pay better attention next time. And yes, I like the envelope style. I did see a couple with zippers. I may give that a go. I'm still trying to figure out if the quilted pillow blocks are just like quilts with a thin layer of batting and then backing on the inside. Seems they would be. I'm already planning out the Lucy's Crab Shack quilt for when I get my fabric. I can't wait.
